For the doctor, his employer, he disembowels people. Organs are in demand. At the races, he is less lucky. His girl, Maria, has noticed that his time is over. He could start all over again, if he were ready to amputate brains. His debts would be discharged, his honor reestablished. But his professional ethos doesn't allow him to do that. He is in a dilemma. When he seeks Maria's understanding, he has to learn, what living without a brain, without memory means. One thing is for sure: The only thing he has left, is his memory.
