The second feature film directed by Shirin Neshat premiered at last years Venice Film Festival. A film within a film, “Looking for Oum Kulthum” is the plight of an Iranian woman artist/filmmaker living in exile, as she embarks on capturing the life and art of the legendry female singer of the Arab world, Oum Kulthum. Through her difficult journey, not unlike her heroine’s, she has to face the struggles, sacrifices and the price that a woman has to pay if she dares to cross the lines of a conservative male dominated society.

We are very excited that Händl Klaus' TOMCAT is nomninated for the Austrian Film Award in the following five categories 'Best Film', 'Best Director', 'Best Script', 'Best Cinematography' (Gerald Kerkletz) und 'Best Editing' (Joana Scrinzi). Furthermore Peter Simonischek is nominated as 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' as TONI ERDMANN. Maren Ade's film already pocketed five European Film Awards for 'Best Film', 'Best Director', 'Best Script', 'Best Actress in a Leading Role' (Sandra Hüller) and 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' and is now not only nominated for the Golden Globes but also on the OSCAR shortlist for 'Best Foreign Language Film'.

Begin of shooting
After the first, intensive shooting phase in Morocco, the team now moves to Austria, where on Nov., 26th the kick-off for the Vienna-shooting will take place. We are happy to work again with Shirin Neshat, an artist reknown around the world. Our first collaboration Women Without Men won the 'Silver lion' at the Venice Film Festival 2009. Here in Vienna some key moments of Oum Kulthum's career will come to live, such as the first ever concert of the 'Maria Callas' of the Arabic World.

We are happy to annouce that KATER/TOMCAT (R: Händl Klaus) will premiere in the course of Viennale Vienna International Film Festival in Austria on Tuesday, November 1st 2016, at 5:30 pm at Gartenbaukino. An additional screening will take place on the 2nd of November at 1 pm at Urania, before it launches in cinemas on the 4th of November Austria-wide. (The Vienna based among you will have to wait untill November 11th 2016 due to the Viennale...)

After the FIPRESCI Award in Cannes, TONI ERDMANN was honored with the FIPRESCI Grand Prix for best film of the year at the San Sebastianl Film Festival.

After it was celebrated in Cannes by both critics and audience, Maren Ade's new feature TONI ERDMANN will now come to Austrian and German cinemas.
Release dates are Thursday. July 14th, for Germany and Friday, July 15th, for Austria.

The shooting has begun
On Tuesday, May, 3rd, the first clapper fell. Our mindgame film TIERE stars Birgit Minichmayr and Phillip Hochmair in the leading roles. Director of our co-production with Tellfilm and Opus Film is Greg Zglinski (Le Temps d'Anna). The first half of the shootijng will take place here in and around Vienna, before the production moves ob to Switzerland and for a few days to Poland.
